A simple idea with a huge impact.

When you're organizing a space, store like items together.

It seems too easy, too simple, and is too often overlooked.

When you've got batteries, pens, toilet paper or shoes scattered in various places across your home it's hard to

  • Know what's where and

  • How much of that item you have

Which leads to

  • Needless searching (are the AA batteries upstairs or downstairs?)

  • Overbuying (oh, I already had more pens, I didn't need those!)

Sometimes, rather than thinking about organizing spaces, it's fun to try to organize items instead.

This strategy can be less overwhelming, quick, is effective and gives you some positive momentum.

Step-by-Step: How To Store Like with Like

  1. Pick a category, like pens or batteries

  2. Collect ALL of them throughout your house

  3. Toss any that aren't functional or expired

  4. Donate extras if you have more than you can realistically use (or commit to not buying anymore until your stash is low)

  5. Store all of that item in one place (that makes sense based on how you use that item!)

  6. Label the container or shelf, especially if you live with others

  7. Let your household know about that it's new home

This simple strategy can help you build your confidence and momentum for decluttering and organizing your home. Small changes can make a big impact on your space, your flow and help you feel more in control.

If you need help figuring out where to start, let's work together!
